Ola to bring e-scooter to India soon

 India's largest mobility platform, OLA is going to introduce electric-scooter service by Jan, 2021.

Ola, which is currently serving more than 250 cities across India, UK, New Zealand and Australia offers wide range of vehicles across cabs, metered taxis, bikes, buses and auto-rickshaws by connecting customers to drivers, now going to manufacture e-scooter and as per the sources launching to the Indian market as well as Europe by January next year.

This year(May 27, 2020) Netherlands based EV startup Etergo has been acqured by OLA Electric aimed to launch electric two wheeler in India in 2021.

The e-scooter is expected to be priced competitively against the current petrol scooters, as the company is looking at tapping into a majority of the 20 million units-two wheeler market in India, and it is looking at sales of a million e-scooters in the first year confirmed by the sources.

The person added that the initial batches of scooters will come from the manufacturing facility in the Amsterdam, Ola Electric is looking at setting up a facility in India to meet the local demand more efficiently and participate in the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Ola is supposed to be in talks with various state governments to set up India's largest e-scooter manufacturing plant with capacity of about 2 million units per year.

Ola was founded in December 2010 and now records more than 1 billion rides every year.
